Outdoor Advertising—Guidelines

For sheer cost-effectiveness, outdoor advertising is unequaled. It can deliver your message all day, every day at a lower cost per thousand viewers than any other medium. With outdoor, you can target your audience geographically, demographically or by lifestyle.

Along with guidelines for outdoor (billboard) advertising, this section includes a selection of ready-to-use billboard designs in two sizes: 30-sheet and 8-sheet.

There are two types of outdoor boards, and each has distinct advantages.

Poster Panels are printed paper in 24-sheet, 30-sheet or bleed sizes. In some areas a junior poster size--8 sheets--is available. Poster panels give you the flexibility to change your message more often. They are sold in monthly increments and are usually located on secondary roadways.

Painted Boards give you the freedom to create extensions, cutouts, etc. They are sold on an annual basis; the price often includes the cost of painting the board. They are usually found on larger, heavily traveled roads, such as interstate highways.
